5 Travel Apps You Must Try

5 Travel Apps You Must Try

With technological advancements disrupting the traditional world as we know it, it is hardly surprising that the travel and tourism world comes embedded in palm of your hand – inside your smartphone.
Here are five apps you must use to enjoy a seamless holiday experience.
1. Duolingo
If you’re traveling to a place which has a different native language, it’s always handy to learn a few key phrases. For a fun way to learn, say “Hola!” check out Duolingo – an app designed to help you learn a language using game like techniques. It guides you with quick lessons and daily quizzes, and is being used in classrooms too.
2. XE Currency
With the ability to convert every world currency, XE is the leading website for currency conversion and has several business oriented features like historic currency charts and rates of precious metals. Available for free on Apple App Store and Google Play Store, the app can also function offline by saving the last updated rate. No more confusion when haggling with those street vendors.
3. Tripit
Traveling in a large group is both fun and a big pain – especially if you’re the only responsible one in the group. Tripit will gather all your travel information, from flight to hotel bookings, car rental and event details, and basically act like a mobile travel agent. Just make sure your group mates forward all their details to you and add them to your app and you are good to go.
4. Waze and Maplets
Two apps, one goal – seamless usage of maps. While Waze is the largest community driven navigation app, Maplets brings together maps from credible sources available for download and offline use. Both the apps are free on Google Play Store but although Waze is free on Apple App Store, Maplets costs $2.99.
5. LiveTrekker
Remember the good ol’ scrap books we had to maintain in school? LiveTrekker does exactly that – with your vacation and in a much cooler way. The app creates a digital journal marking a red line along your exact route all the while monitoring your speed and altitude. You can also add pictures, text, audio and video – creating an interactive multimedia travel journal for yourself.
Honorable mention: Google. We all know this company has a lot to offer in all fields, and it doesn’t disappoint in this area as well. Maps and Translate – both available for free on Apple App Store and Google Play Store – are extremely popular and useful when you are traversing any land, foreign or domestic. While Maps also lets you download areas for offline use now, Translate allows you to use your camera to translate any text instantly in 26 languages.
